A massive car fire caused a chaotic scene after it crashed into student housing on Marquette University's campus, just after midnight.

The crash happened just hours before thousands of students arrive on campus for move-in day.

According to a Marquette University spokesperson, a car crashed into the McCabe apartments near 17th Street and Wisconsin Avenue after hitting a light pole.

WISN 12 News obtained cellphone video at the scene and caught the fiery aftermath on camera.

Video shows flames shooting through the hood of the car. Students can be seen near the area as the fire continued to grow.

WISN 12 News spoke to a woman who was near the crash visiting her boyfriend at the apartments.

"I just hear a 'boom' and the alarm starts going off in the dorms, and then we start smelling a bunch of smoke, and we were like, 'what's happening? We gotta get out of here,'" said Sofia Perez.

A Marquette University told WISN 122 News the driver attempted to run after the crash but was arrested by Marquette University Police.

There are no injuries to report nor were any of the students' apartments impacted.
